Description

"Joan Woodward was the stepdaughter of Philip Henslowe who built The Rose Playhouse. Edward Alleyn was a leading Elizabethan actor and the favourite of Elizabeth I. He and Philip Henslowe had their fingers in many business deals, including brothels, tanneries and dye works. Edward became a member of the Middle Temple, one of the inns of the Court, mixing with lawyers and judges. He was also received and even allowed to dance at the royal court. After he retired from acting, he founded Dulwich College.

Discover how a rich, aspiring middle-class Tudor couple would have celebrated their wedding anniversary. What food would they have eaten? How would it have been presented? What entertainment would have been on offer? Partake of a few Tudor sweetmeats and dance with us."
