Description
The Rose Playhouse was built by Philip Henslowe in 1587, remodeled in 1592 and abandoned sometime before the end of his lease in 1605. In 1989, archaeologists discovered the ruin and the foundations were saved from destruction during the building of a new office block, Rose Court. The site was listed as a scheduled monument in 1992. The Rose Theatre Trust (RTT) made it possible to open the site to the public in 1999.
